This pair of tufted pieces was created together with the intention of eventual separation. Much like sisters who grow up side by side before life carries them in different directions, the works exist as independent forms while still holding a visual memory of one another. Their colors align and flow between the two pieces, suggesting a shared origin while allowing each form to maintain its own identity. Though physically apart, the works remain in quiet dialogue—mirroring the enduring bond between siblings who follow different paths but inevitably find their way back to each other.

Little Sister: 21"x21"x3"
This tufted work draws inspiration from the organic formations of brain coral, translated through varying pile heights to create a sense of contracting depth across the surface. The sculpted fiber mimics the rhythmic patterns and growth of coral structures, inviting the viewer to move visually through the piece. To balance the softness of the tufted forms, French beading introduces more concrete, structured elements that extend beyond the surface. Together, these contrasting textile techniques explore the tension between softness and structure while echoing the complexity of coral ecosystems.
24"x36.5"x5"
This textile piece is an exploration of form, texture, and the tension between abstraction and representation. Inspired by the quiet, poised presence of a bird standing still, the work uses variations in pile height and texture to suggest the essence of this figure without directly replicating it.
The bird is not in motion but rather captured in a moment of calm, its stillness expressed through the contrasts in materiality. The varying pile heights create a tactile landscape that evokes the softness and complexity of feathers, while the shifting textures invite the viewer to experience the form in a more subtle and intimate way. Through this interplay of texture and form, the piece allows the bird’s stillness to become its primary characteristic, suggesting a sense of groundedness and quiet contemplation.
In this abstracted interpretation, I seek to convey the bird’s presence, not as a literal image, but as an emotive, tactile experience that prompts reflection on the nature of stillness and the delicate beauty found in moments of pause.
19.5"x30.25"x2"
"Coral Flowers" is a lyrical abstraction that blossoms from the vivid hues found on the face of a male Great White Pelican—its flushed pinks, sunlit golds, and quiet blues reborn in a coral dreamscape. The piece is a meditation on transformation, where avian beauty dissolves into reef-like forms, blurring the boundaries between sky and sea, feather and reef, fleeting gesture and timeless bloom.
38.5"x38.5"x2"
This tufted tapestry is inspired by the vivid coloration of the Blue Dart Frog, a creature whose brilliance serves as both warning and wonder. I translated its striking blues and organic spotting into layered fiber, sculpting the pile to create dimensional shifts across the surface. The raised and recessed areas echo the physical presence of the frog while emphasizing the tactile nature of the textile as a medium.
Through color and depth, this piece explores the tension between beauty and defense — how vibrancy can signal both fragility and power. By rendering this small but formidable amphibian at a larger scale, I invite viewers to consider the quiet intensity found in overlooked ecosystems and the sculptural potential of fiber itself.
42.5"x33”x4"
This textile work is a study in abstraction, rooted in the form of a bouquet but transformed through the nuanced use of pile height, texture, and color. Rather than depicting flowers in a traditional or representational way, I chose to evoke their essence—gesture, vibrancy, and organic structure—through tactile and visual layering.
The varied pile heights introduce dimensionality, allowing the surface to echo the uneven fullness of a gathered bouquet. Textural contrasts mimic the interplay of petals, stems, and leaves, while the color palette—intentionally layered and abstracted—captures the emotional resonance of florals rather than their literal hues.
Through this abstraction, the bouquet becomes something more than an arrangement of flowers; it becomes a sensory field where movement, memory, and material coalesce. The work invites viewers to engage not with a recognizable image, but with an impression of growth, celebration, impermanence, and the richness found in natural forms.
32"x31.5"2"
This tufted work centers on the Ivory-billed Woodpecker, a species whose disappearance has become emblematic of ecological loss in the American South. By rendering the bird in soft, tactile fibers, I aim to reintroduce a sense of presence to something that now exists primarily in memory and speculation. The material warmth of tufting contrasts with the stark reality of extinction, inviting viewers to reflect on how craft can hold space for grief, reverence, and the fragile histories carried by the natural world.
10.5x"10"x2"
In this work, I merge the softness of tufted textile surfaces with the precision and rigidity of French beaded florals. The contrast between these materials underscores the tension between comfort and structure, fragility and resilience. Each beaded flower is constructed through slow, deliberate repetition, then placed against a plush, absorptive ground that both supports and complicates its form. Together, these elements create a dialogue about how ornament can function as both embellishment and anchor—an intersection where tactile warmth and meticulous craft coexist in a shared visual field.
10"x10"x2"
This piece brings together the plush surface of tufted fiber with the structured precision of French beaded florals. The softness of the ground acts as a quiet field in which the beaded flowers emerge with clarity and weight, emphasizing the interplay between delicacy and solidity. Through this pairing, I explore how textile forms can hold multiple registers at once—tactile comfort, ornamental excess, and the intimate labor of handwork. The resulting composition reflects a balance between the ephemeral qualities of bloom and the enduring presence of craft.
9"x8.5"x2"
In this work, I juxtapose the dense, velvety texture of tufted fiber with the refined structure of French beaded florals. The beaded flowers sit lightly on the surface, yet their construction carries a sense of weight and intention—each loop and wire-formed petal shaped through repetitive, embodied labor. Against the rich green ground, the flowers echo both natural growth and ornamental artifice. Through this combination of materials, I aim to consider how craft can capture the tension between softness and precision, and how familiar botanical forms can be reimagined through tactile, hybrid processes.

This piece is part of my ongoing Natural Collection— Bouquet 2, a body of work that celebrates and reimagines the native species of Arkansas through textiles. At its heart are two botanical subjects: the endangered Southern Spicebush and the vibrant Spider Lily. Both are rendered not as direct botanical illustrations but as abstract impressions shaped through material, texture, and form.
I employed a combination of crochet, beaded floral elements, and meticulously hand-carved pile heights to construct a dynamic, tactile landscape. The varied textures and sculptural surfaces are intended to echo the complexity and fragility of these species, while also evoking a sense of immersion in the natural world.
By abstracting these forms, I aim to create a nature scape that honors what is both visible and vanishing. The piece is a meditation on presence and loss, rooted in place and ecology. It invites the viewer to engage with the delicacy of Arkansas's native flora, to feel the landscape rather than simply observe it, and to reflect on the intricate relationships between species, environment, and memory.

Bring Home a Piece of Purpose
Meet the Recycled Arkansas—a one-of-a-kind creation born from studio scraps and transformed into art with intention. Each piece is hand-tufted using repurposed materials, helping reduce waste while celebrating the shape and spirit of the Natural State. Thoughtful, tactile, and sustainably made—this is Arkansas like you’ve never seen it.
Inspired by the body of a sea snail, while utilizing natural colors found in living sea life, she constructed her version of a coral reef ecosystem. With the temperatures continuously rising, the impact is visible underwater. Coral bleaching is a byproduct of this phenomenon. The once-pigmented ecosystem that so many species depend upon is becoming lifelessly colorless. Using various pile heights, cuts and loops, and hues, Henthorne created an organic multichromatic tufted sea ecological community.

This piece embodies the state of Arkansas. Known as the "Natural State," I wanted to capture its unique attributes while continuing to think about educating my viewers about endangered species. Known for its nature, the piece harbors colors found amongst the trees statewide in autumn. Following the elevation layers, the hues lead the viewer through the hills and planes. The Arkansas River can also be seen streaming through the middle of the piece while cutting through the Ozarks Natural Forest. There, an underwater waterfall can be found. To the right side of the work, the state's most endangered plant, the Southern Spicebush, can be seen growing where it is naturally found.

Observing various natural surroundings, this piece allows the viewer to explore a diverse array of flora. Encompassing the native North American endangered Jade Vine, Flame Azalea, and Dragon Mouth Orchid; the piece displays a vibrant terrain. Lush with moss, and vibrant greens it is joined in tandem with a dry, crackling geography complemented by draped, looping flowers. Connecting these distinctive topographies is a flowing river. Traveling through the work, the water creates a non-distinct framed broader. Accentuated through hand carving, bodies of land are separated only to be reunited via the viewer's gaze.

As global warming continues to threaten the Earth, a victim often forgotten about, the ocean and its occupants continue to be affected. Coral bleaching is one side effect that’s becoming more noticeable. Coral, which used to appear healthy and brimming with life, now lacks color and its inhabitants. Coral Reef View takes colors once found in a natural seascapes palette and reimagines them back to life into the tufted world.
Utilizing natural colors found in living sea life, I constructed my version of a coral reef ecosystem.
